Echoes of Mercy by Kim Vogel SawyerMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was given the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book by the author.
1904 Kansas - Caroline Lang is working undercover as an investigator for the Labor Commission at Dinsmore's World Famous Chocolate Factory. Sent officially to investigate the large number of underage workers at the factory, and unofficially to look into the recent death of a fellow investigator.
Oliver Dinsmore, aka Ollie Moore, is involved in some undercover work of his own. Posing as a janitor he is trying to learn all he can about his father's company Dinsmore's World Famous Chocolate Factory so he will be prepared to take over one day.
Caroline and David are drawn to each other from the beginning. But, the two quickly realize that they disagree on one major point -- child labor. And something is going on at the factory that could push them even farther apart. Can they trust each other enough to work together, or are both of them in great danger?
Kim Vogel Sawyer nailed it with this book. I was drawn in completely from page 1. The main characters are strong and believable and the supporting characters bring life to theme of hope from hopelessness - and the message is sincere not preachy.
I have nothing bad to say about this book other than I did not want it to end. Maybe Mrs. Sawyer will write a sequel about some of the supporting characters. ;) hint!
